Is Telecommuting Right For You?
As gas prices soar, more employers are giving serious thought to allowing their employees to telecommute - working one day or more from home via the computer and telephone. According to a statement made by CCH Employment Law Analyst, Brett Govorsky, JD., currently more than 22 million people in the United States telecommute at least one day a week. He expects that number to continue to rise due to high gas prices. While more employers are starting to jump on the telecommuting wagon, so to speak, other employers remain skittish about the whole idea. They cite concerns about security, the productivity level of their employees outside the office, and even employee loyalty. Reports show, however, that productivity for telecommuters is high. Employees are happy to be saving money at the pumps and working in the comfort of their own home.
